Home-Schooled Students

Student Accident Insurance

The Home Schooling division has made inquiries regarding the availability of student accident insurance for students who may occasionally participate in activities or events in their local neighbourhood school.  The School Insurance Program (SIP) has arranged to extend their current basic student insurance policy (as described in #1 below) to the second group of students (as described in #2 below) without cost to parents (SIPBasicandGoldPlanComparison.pdf).

The three categories of students are:

(1) Students that are registered with the province of Nova Scotia with the home schooling division and are also registered with a Regional Centre for Education or with Conseil scolaire acadien provincial. These students are currently covered under class 3 of the basic student accident program as a registered student and their parents/guardians can purchase student accident Gold Plan insurance.

(2) Students that are registered with the province of Nova Scotia with the home schooling division and are NOT registered with a Regional Centre for Education nor with Conseil scolaire acadien provincial, but who have permission to participate in a school extra-curricular activity or play sports at an after school event organized by the school. They will not attend any classes or play on any teams or go on field trips. These students are currently covered under class 3 of the basic student accident program as a registered student and their parents/guardians can purchase student accident Gold Plan insurance.

(3) Students that are registered with the province of Nova Scotia with the home schooling division and are NOT registered with a Regional Centre for Education nor with Conseil scolaire acadien provincial. They will never attend any classes or events at the school. Currently, there is no coverage available to these students.  Parents can consult with their insurance broker for guidance on purchasing student accident insurance coverage.
